King Cruiser Wreck

This wreck could tell a strange tale. Not that long as the car ferry sank as late as in 1997. Year after year King Cruiser ferried passengers from Phuket to the Phi Phi islands. The same route each day, then  on the very last day before the ferry was due to retire the captain “made a mistake” when navigating and run right up onto Anemone Reef. King Cruiser sank to the bottom and is now a perfect dive site neatly parked between 20 and 30 metres under the surface! All passengers and crew were saved in the “accident”. Given the right education and experience the King Cruiser is a very interesting dive. If you are tired of the actual wreck (if this is possible?) the marine life is already abundant. The problem with King Cruiser it that the wreck is so interesting there are sometimes more “passengers” on the ferry today than during it’s heyday on the surface!

Koh Dork Mai
A tiny jungle covered island between Shark Point and Phuket, its name meaning "Flower Island" in Thai. It gets this name from the "flowers" beneath the surface, namely the hard and soft corals covering the vertical outcrop. It forms a good wall dive dropping down to 30 meters and can be easily circumnavigated several times during one dive. There are a couple of small caves that may home to different reef critters. Koh Dork Mai makes a good night dive and is also a favourite among the macro fans with the highlight being the tiny yellow seahorses ... if you can find them!

Anemone Reef

Dropping to a depth of around 25 meters this rock outcrop derives its name from the numerous anemones that cover the top. The dive is usually started at depth where you may spot a leopard shark on the sandy bottom. You can then slowly rise, circumnavigating the reef while keeping a lookout for morays and and other coral inhabitants. Take in the beautiful anemones and playful clownfish as you approach your saftey stop.

Shark Point

This is a tiny island called Hin Mu Sang situated around 25km east of Phuket. It gets the name as there are nearly always leopard sharks around its base on the sand 20 meters below. A diver can be almost guaranteed to spot one here. Besides the leopard sharks the site consists of three pinnacles that are covered in soft corals that home an abundance of marine life. Nutrient rich currents can be strong here so visiting pelagics are not uncommon. The Thai government declared this site a marine sanctuary in 1992 so all forms of fishing and collecting are prohibited.

Koh Racha Yai

Koh Racha Yai (also spelled Raya or Raja) is the larger of the two islands south of Phuket. The better diving is off the east coast where good drifts can be done along the hard coral walls. Many species of coral can be spotted here with staghorn predominating in many places. The island often attracts some bigger visitors such as barracuda and the odd reef shark as well as the usual array of reef inhabitants. There are several interesting places to dive around Koh Racha Yai including Lucy's Reef where you may come across stonefish and catfish and Marla's Mystery, a wreck that is now home to morays, groupers and lionfish.an see there - you'll have to come to see for yourself!

Koh Racha Noi

Further south is Koh Racha Noi, a smaller island that also offers some good dive spots. There are two submerged pinnacles on each end of the island that are teeming with marine life. The southern pinnacle offers underwater boulders and scenery similar to that seen in the Similans, often with visibility to match. Big schools of hunting jacks and barracuda are common and if the season is right you may spot a manta ray. There are also a couplr of shallower spots around the island for the more inexperienced diver.
