Koh Talu
Koh Talu is the most popular dive spot in the area and lies just off the coast. With shallow fringing reef and coral gardens it homes a wide variety of marine fishes. Larger schools of snappers and fusiliers can be seen and the hard coral is in good condition and relatively unspoilt. There is also a shallow here bay ideal for snorkellers where a sandy bottom is peppered with coral outcrops. Keep your eyes open for large rays that often frequent the area.

Bangsapan
Bangsapan is a small beach town around an hour north of Chumphon city in Prachuab Khiri Khan province. It offers a couple of interesting islands off the coast where some good diving can be had. The biggest and most popular island is Koh Talu but there are several other small ones around it. A short drive north is another sleepy beach town called Ban Krut, a fishing village with a 30km long beach and a few resorts. These two locations are quite far from the tourist trail but can be popular with locals, they make an excellent getaway destination with some diving thrown in for good measure.

Koh Ran Gai and Koh Ran Bped

Koh Ran Gai and Koh Ran Bped are a little deeper and offer larger marine life and a couple of caves where natural light penetrates. Off the coast of Ran Gai is a submerged pinnacle with an impressive swimthrough that has a wide internal cavity dappled in natural ambient light. Marine life at these sites include scorpionfish, box fish, snappers and fusiliers.

Koh Ngam Yai

Koh Ngam Yai is one of the further islands from the mainland. It is also home to some bigger visitors such as groupers, jacks and the occasional turtle. With abundant coral gardens bristling with colour housing all manner of reef invertebrates and crustaceans. Dives are usually off the northern tip of the island where the coral drops to around 20 metres and visibility can be good if your're lucky. Saddle back anemone fish and pipe fish can be found here on close inspection, crown of thorn starfish are also a common sight here. Fishing nets are often spotted draped over the coral which is surprising as the area is supposed to be a National Park.

Koh Ngam Noi

This island is the little sister to Koh Ngam Yai, it offers rocky formations housing nesting swifts above the surface and soft coral gardens below. Plenty of anemones here with their pink skunk anemonefish along with sea urchins and feather stars. You may also spot a scorpionfish or two, sleeping turtles and some interesting cowries and other gastropods. Again the presence of fishing nets detracts from this dive somewhat.

Koh Lak Ngam

The twin pinnacles here can be home to bigger fish when the currents are strong. Its not unusual to spot hunting trevallys and jacks at this spot. Curious Batfish may also be around for a look at the divers and there are numerous large anemones and clams. A figure of eight can be done around the formation during the dive where rocky outcrops are covered in whip corals. A disturbing site here is the presence of many fishing nets tangled up on the corals, again dissapointing that the Thai authorities are not protecting their marine areas despite labelling them "Marine National Parks".
